British Birdwatching Fair: Thanks to everyone who visited our stand at the Bird Fair, it was great to see new and old friends. We'll be back there in 2009, and further details will be available at the Bird Fair Website Nigel & Glyn at BBF
Slovenia: Nigel spent an intersting weekend in Slovenia, where he managed to catch up with his last remaining Eurpoean breeding species, Rock Partridge. In the company of Balazs and Attila from Ecotours, and John Overfield, we tracked down many interesting species, and are putting together a tour for 2008 which will feature the abovementioned Partridge, Pygmy & Tengmalm's Owls, Woodpeckers, Corncrake and other specialities of the area. Grey-headed Woodpecker
Slovakia: Our 2007 Slovakia weekend was a success, finding all of the sought-after owls and woodpeckers with excellent views of Tengmalm's, Pygmy and Ural Owls, and Grey-headed, White-backed and Three-toed Woodpeckers. Other interesting species included Goshawk, Saker, Imperial Eagle and we had an interesting watching local naturalists mist-netting bats. Ural Owl
Japan: Our 2007 Japan trip has just finished, with a list of mouthwatering birds. Hightlights included Blakiston's Fish-owl, Steller's Sea-eagle, Red-crowned Cranes, Laysan Albatross, the huge gathering of White-naped and Hooded Cranes at Arasaki, and good views of Pryer's and Owsten's Woodpeckers, Okinawa Rail, Lidth's Jay, Amami Woodcock, Ryukyu Robin and more. Blakiston's Fish-owl
Nigeria: Our innovative Nigeria trip had excellent sightings of Grey-necked Picathartes, and Vermiculated Fish-owl. The suporting cast included Grey headed Broadbill, Black Bee-eater, Congo Serpent Eagle, Black and Yellow Casqued Hornbill. We hope to repeat this trip in 2008. Cross River NP
Corsica: Our Corsica & Sardinia weekend trip went well, with good sightings of Corsican Nuthatch and Finch, as well as a host of other species, including Marmora's and Dartford Warblers. Our trip in 2007 will follow this success, and is available to book now. Restonica Gorge
Kenya: We had another excellent green-season trip to Kenya. This May, Brian magicked up over 700 species in 18 days, which is the highest we've ever had for this time of year. Great Blue Turacos
Sarus in the News and on TV!: But you probably won't have seen it, as it was in Japan. Our birding steps on cold and snowy Hokkaido were dogged by journalists, and we had an official welcome by the mayor of Nemuro City. Unfortunately, most of the group missed out on this event due to being held up with Blakiston's Fish-owl (a highlight of the trip), but Chris got a chance to show off his Japanese skills to a TV audience. Other trip highlights were over 12000 Hooded and White-naped Cranes at Arasaki, the Red-crowned Cranes on Hokkaido, and of course, Steller's Sea Eagle. Sarus in Japan
